Our Long Beach beaches get hammered with trash and plastic that comes in from all over the world. This makes people sad, including the GreenCoast Hydroponics family members. They are not just the Long Beach California indoor garden experts; they are Mother Earth Lovers at Heart! The Long Beach, Anaheim and venice california greencoast hydroponics team members got together this summer to pick up the beach in Long Beach and in Los Angeles. When these guys are not spending time selling a gardener a new grow light or the perfect organic nutrient, they are doing good in California and in the world.
How did GreenCoast get started with beach cleanup?
This all came about because the Long Beach California Inventory lady and 2014 Hydro Hottie Brittany got the idea to create a fun meet up of GreenCoast Hydroponics folks to clean that trash up. These weekly beach cleanups have become very popular!! Look for more info in the future as we will continue to make coastal cleanups a regular thing.
GreenCoast Hydroponics is excited to announce the opening of our newest location, North Hollywood! This is our 14th and largest location with 30,000 square feet of space available!
Not just a hydroponics store, GreenCoast serves as a community center where growers new and old can learn together and get the supplies they need! North Hollywood store managers, John and Christian have a passion for growing and plan to develop our North Hollywood location into the most dependable hydroponics shop in Los Angeles.
“This is the biggest hydro shop we’ve ever been in. We’re located in between the 170, the 5, and Hollywood is right over the hill. It’s exciting to be in the center of it all! Being able to work with your friends, help people grow, and watch your company advance is a privilege that we embrace. We’ve gone from 1 store to 14 and we look forward to what the future holds for GreenCoast North Hollywood!”
With decades of growing experience, John and Christian enjoy building relationships with local growers and look forward to helping North Hollywood customers reach their hydroponics goals.
Our North Hollywood location will have a 24 light display and is one of the first hydroponics shops in the nation to house a brand new Canna Panel grow room (pictured below, photo is during construction).
Canna Panels are a new option for quickly building out an indoor gardening space with FDA approved non-absorbent construction material. Canna Panel systems are modular, easily assembled walls and ceilings that join to each other with a hermetically sealed slip lock connection. Canna Panels are only one of the many new hydroponics technologies that will be featured in our North Hollywood location!

GreenCoast
Hydroponics is excited to announce the opening of our newest hydro super store,
located in the heart of Sin City! GreenCoast Las Vegas features nearly 10,000
sq. ft. of retail space, and carries all of the brands and products you love.
Not just a hydroponics store, Green
Coast serves as a community center where growers new and old can
learn together. Brekke Moore, the Las Vegas store manager, has a passion for
growing and plans to develop GCLV into the most customer friendly hydroponics
store in Nevada.
When it comes to hydro, Brekke is your
girl. With over a decade of growing experience, she has gained extensive
first-hand knowledge, and has become an expert in the art of growing. Here’s what
Brekke has to share about her experience with GreenCoast.
What’s your growing experience?
My husband and I started our first indoor garden about 13
years ago. After expanding our garden over the course of a few years, I began
going to school for a horticulture certificate. So between full time school, a
part time job, and raising a child, my husband took over the garden. I have
regular gardening knowledge, as well as the more specialized gardening skills.
I also got my QAL before moving to Nevada.
What made you join GreenCoast?
I was in school and wanted to find a job that would get me
the work experience credits I needed. I had spent that last year working for
free in the school garden at Long Beach City College and was tired of it. I
believe we transplanted 2500 peppers and tomatoes for our plant sale that
spring. All for free! We had been customers of the original GC Long Beach shop,
and since none of the local nurseries were hiring, I started applying at hydro
stores.
I started as the plant girl in the Long Beach shop,
keeping all the display and office plants healthy and pretty. Once we moved into
a larger warehouse, I quickly realized that a plant girl was the last thing
they needed. I made myself useful doing whatever I could, and eventually ended
up as the Director of Purchasing.
What do you like about GreenCoast
or its customers?
I have been here long enough to see the company grow from
3 stores to almost 13 now. I worked side by side on the sales floor with Jordan
Weiss, our CEO. Our CFO, Jessica Weiss, was the one who interviewed and hired
me. GreenCoast is my family. The customers that come into the shop become
regular customers. I get to know them and their families. Especially living in
Long Beach, which is like a very small city but still large, I ran into many
customers outside of work. I am not a “used car lot” kind of salesperson; I
have a very hard time lying. So everything I say to a customer is truth that I
have personally experienced myself, or have seen someone else use successfully.
And I think that the customers sense and appreciate that.
What do
you look forward to doing with GreenCoast in Vegas?
I look forward to this store being
super successful. I want all the cultivation places shopping with us. There
is also a large population of smaller growers that I want to help become
great farmers. I want to bring the growers out here up to date with the
current style of growing, and spread the GreenCoast way throughout the Vegas
valley. I want this store to continue in the GreenCoast tradition. Excellent
customer service with prices that can’t be beat, and knowledge that is
consistent no matter what GreenCoast store you shop at!
Although GreenCoast Hydroponics is
growing, do not expect to lose our highly personable customer service. Our
goal is to provide you expert advice and higher yields at costs that can’t be
beat.
In addition to our expanding retail
locations, GreenCoast Hydroponics now offers commercial services and loans. Meet

Symbiotic relationships allow life on earth to flourish. Our planet’s natural resources, when cared for, can sustain an abundance of life: our tropical forests are home to half of the world’s 10 million species and produce 20% of our global oxygen supply. Sadly, climate change and deforestation are destroying Earth’s tropical forests at a rate of one acre per second. GreenCoast is proud to support Sustainable Harvest International, a non-profit organization that works to restore the symbiotic balance in Central America through sustainable agriculture.
Isabel Rodriguez is living proof that this model is effective. Since joining forces with Sustainable Harvest International’s Panama program in 2003, his farm and family have flourished. Isabel previously used slash-and-burn agriculture to produce a few meager crops. Thanks to an irrigation system and soil conservation techniques, the Rodriguez family farm now enjoys an abundance of pineapple, coffee and hardwood trees, among other crops they sell and eat. Isabel’s increased income from farming has allowed his daughters to attend college, an accomplishment in a community where residents typically receive a sixth grade education. Because Sustainable Harvest International works with communities, not just individual farmers, Isabel’s village has also experienced greater biodiversity in recent years, welcoming back various species of birds and animals that had vacated the area.
GreenCoast is passionate about sustaining Earth’s tropical forests and empowering the people who live nearest them. For each Pandora ballast sold in our stores, GreenCoast plants a tree in Panama, Honduras or Belize. We are grateful to our loyal customers for helping us promote sustainable practices and restore balance in our environment. Visit our online Knowledge Center for information about beneficial bacteria, neem oil, and other ecologically friendly ways to maintain your garden.
HI There! I literally live in the neighborhood of your Mar Vista plant. I teach 5th grade at a local elementary school. The new NGSS science standards want the kids to ask questions, build models like engineers do, be scientifically aware citizens to solve problems that impact the world, and (what brought me to your site) understand that plants get their nutrients from air and water, and not soil. So.... could I come to your plant this Saturday and speak to someone about hydroponics? Carola
Hey! It sounds like you’re near our Venice store location. You can swing by there any time on Saturday (hours are 10am to 7pm) to talk to our staff. Hydroponics can definitely make for a great scientific experiment.
Hydroponic growers understand the importance of pure water; it is the key component of hydroponics and vital to the success of any garden. Water is equally essential to human life, but tragically, more than than 663 million people around the globe lack access to this vital resource. The majority of those affected live in rural areas and spend hours every day walking to collect water. Beyond these economic implications, the water source is often contaminated, causing public health issues. Water is the difference between poverty and opportunity, between vibrant health and illness.
Over the last three years, GreenCoast Hydroponics has brought clean, safe water to nearly 1,700 people through our work with Charity:Water, a phenomenal non-profit organization that builds sustainable, community-owned water projects in developing nations. With the help of our generous customers (we match their donations dollar for dollar), GreenCoast has funded six different water projects in Ethiopia, Bangladesh and India.
Our most recent project provided 579 high school students the Chittagong Region of Bangladesh with clean, safe water - and as a result, more time for their education. In January of this year, Ziri Khalil-Mir Adarsha High School was retrofitted with a piped water system and its students were trained on proper hygiene. Now, students will not have to spend up to two hours a day walking to collect water, allowing them to focus on their studies. New latrines especially benefit female students, as they will no longer have to stay home one week out of the month.
A hand-dug well in Walka, Ethiopia has also brought improvements in public health and quality of life. Within months of the project’s completion, 50% more households had installed latrines and waterborne diseases had dropped by 11%. The people here used to make due with just five liters of water per day for drinking, bathing and cooking. Now, community members can use up to 15 liters of clean, safe water per day. The community has even formed a Water Committee that will oversee usage and repairs of the water source.
Here at GreenCoast, we feel we have a responsibility to make the world a better place. Our CFO and in-house philanthropist Jessica Weiss puts it simply: “I feel that GreenCoast can be a force for good in the world.” Whether it’s through our charity involvement or providing expert growing advice, in your greenhouse or across the globe, we are dedicated to creating natural, sustainable systems that empower individuals everywhere.
Thanks to a partnership with the great guys over at Vermicrop Organics, we have spent the last two years successfully donating organic soil to school garden programs in Long Beach and Los Angeles California. These organic potting soil donations have made is possible for thousands of Southern California students to learn about sustainable gardening and growing food. Most California school garden programs are not very well funded, especially in urban areas. These donations are usually around 50-60 bags. A donation of soil makes a huge impact on a school garden.

helping kids to learn where their food comes from
GreenCoast Hydroponics has been supporting kids and schools for over a decade. We focus on school garden programs, by doing indoor gardening demos, indoor and outdoor garden set ups, and by teaching kids about plant nutrition and growing. We regularly work in partnership with Vermicrop, makers of organic growing media. We regularly arrange donations of organic soil, grow lights, heavy 16 nutrients, organic nutrients and other garden supplies to help kids grow plants.

GreenCoast Team Members from Venice help a local Public School with their Hydroponic Garden
A few weeks ago at the local Venice, CA farmers market, our GreenCoast team members were approached by a teacher from Ralph Waldo Emerson Middle School in Los Angeles, CA. She teaches applied science to inner-city middle school students. Her students have been successful in growing outdoors for several years. This year the outside irrigation is being dug up and the students decided to try and grow with a hydroponic garden. Our expert hydroponic growers were asked if there were any hydroponic garden supplies that our garden supply store could donate to her classroom. We received an email the next day that stated:
Dear GreenCoast Hydroponics, we still need a light, and a longer fill hose for a 66 gallon container and two pumps that sit correctly in containers, we only have six oxygen pots, 6 bags of grow stones, 6 gallons of liquid organic plant fertilizer and powdered bat guano. I have a secondary fluorescent grow light system with burnt lightbulbs, perhaps we could upgrade to LED or higher powered grow lights. Also, we have access to a faucet, but not a filter to clean our water for growing plants. Anything you can do will be wonderful for the kids!
GreenCoast Hydroponics has been Volunteering and Donating to California Schools for Over a Decade
Little did this California School teacher know that she asked for garden supply help from exactly the right hydroponic growing experts and the right Southern California Garden Supply store. Our Venice, California GreenCoast Hydroponics team members were in her Los Angeles California class room within a week. The GreenCoast guys focused on setting up the indoor bucket system the school already owned and gave the class a short lesson on hydroponics. Our Venice California team members will be back in the growing classroom next week to set up some donated grow lights from Sunlight Supply. We are also working on a donation of organic soil from Vermicrop.
